The Social Studies Flyover

One test, five stories — this shelf holds them all.

The GED social studies test draws on four fields: civics and government carry about half the questions, U.S. history about a fifth, and economics and geography-and-the-world the rest. This shelf covers all of it in five short sets — five, because the American story and the world story each earn a set of their own. If you’re new, read the American Story first and civics second; after that, take them in any order. Each set stands alone, and they all link into each other.

How to use it. Every set is made of five-minute pages and keeps its own progress marks inside. The check marks on this page are for whole sets — tick one off when you finish a set. They’re kept on this device, and nothing is graded.
0 of 5 done
  1. Set One The American Story

Seven Movements, from before 1492 to now — the story the other four sets keep pointing into.

  2. Set Two The Civics Flyover

Seven questions, seven fights — how the machine actually works.

  3. Set Three The Economics Flyover

Seven questions about making, choosing, and getting.

  4. Set Four The Geography Flyover

Six pages: maps, settlement, migration, borders, the land, and one connected world.

  5. Set Five Round Trip to the Big Bang

Eight parts — out to the beginning of everything, and back to this morning.

Then, the quizzes. The social studies quiz series — Ancient America to the Singularity — teaches before it asks, quiz by quiz. And the flyovers for the other three subjects are back on the GED page.
