U.S. History Diagnostic

U.S. history is 20 percent of the Social Studies test, and this page shows what you already know about it and what to work on first.

How this works

There are 30 questions in eight short parts. Each part covers one period of U.S. history that the GED test asks about. When you finish a part, press its Check this part button. Each question will be marked, and an explanation will appear under it.

The results table at the bottom fills in as you go. For each part, it tells you how you did and where to go to learn more.

You do not have to do it all at once. Your answers are kept in this browser, on this device, so you can stop and come back. There is no time limit. If you do not know an answer, it is better to leave it blank than to guess: then the results table will show you what to study.
