Example 1

√50 is between which two whole numbers?
  1. The perfect squares on either side of 50: 72 = 49 and 82 = 64.
  2. 50 is between them.

Answer: 7 and 8

Example 2

√110 is between which two whole numbers?
  1. 102 = 100 and 112 = 121.

Answer: 10 and 11
