Two examples

Example 1

Write 2x + y = 7 in slope-intercept form.
  1. Get y alone: subtract 2x from both sides.

Answer: y = −2x + 7

Example 2

Write 3x − 2y = 8 in slope-intercept form.
  1. Subtract 3x: −2y = −3x + 8.
  2. Divide every term by −2.

Answer: y = 32x − 4
