What is the slope of the line y = 4?
  1. y = 4 is a flat line: y never changes, so the rise is 0.

Answer: 0

Example 2

Which is the equation of the vertical line through (−2, 5)?
  1. A vertical line keeps the same x everywhere.
  2. The point has x = −2.

Answer: x = −2
