Two examples

Example 1

You have 4 shirts and 3 pairs of pants. How many outfits?
  1. Each shirt goes with each pair of pants: 4 × 3.

Answer: 12

Example 2

A diner offers 3 sandwiches, 2 sides and 4 drinks. How many meals of one of each?
  1. 3 × 2 × 4.

Answer: 24
