Two examples

Example 1

Sentence or fragment? Because the bus was late again.
  1. Look for a subject and a verb: bus and was. Both are there.
  2. Now read it aloud. Because leaves you waiting: because the bus was late, what happened?
  3. The thought is not complete, so it is not a sentence.

Answer: A fragment

Example 2

Sentence or fragment? Wait here.
  1. This is a command. A command has no written subject. The subject is you, the person being told.
  2. The verb is wait, and the thought is complete.

Answer: A complete sentence
