Two examples

Example 1

Walking up from the subway, ______.Choices: the rain started  /  I felt the rain start  /  the rain was felt
  1. The opening phrase describes someone walking. Who?
  2. The first words after the comma must name that person.
  3. The rain started would say the rain was walking. I felt the rain start puts the walker, I, right after the comma.

Answer: Walking up from the subway, I felt the rain start.

Example 2

Tired after the double shift, ______.Choices: the couch looked wonderful  /  Kwame fell asleep on the couch  /  sleep came quickly
  1. Who was tired after the shift? A person, not a couch.
  2. The person must come right after the comma.
  3. Kwame fell asleep on the couch does that.

Answer: Tired after the double shift, Kwame fell asleep on the couch.
