236 × 7 =
  1. Ones: 7 × 6 = 42; write 2, carry 4.
  2. Tens: 7 × 3 = 21, plus 4 carried = 25; write 5, carry 2.
  3. Hundreds: 7 × 2 = 14, plus 2 carried = 16; write 16.

Answer: 1,652

Example 2

1,408 × 6 =
  1. Ones: 6 × 8 = 48; write 8, carry 4. Tens: 6 × 0 = 0, plus 4 = 4; write 4.
  2. Hundreds: 6 × 4 = 24; write 4, carry 2. Thousands: 6 × 1 = 6, plus 2 = 8.

Answer: 8,448
