Example 1

46 × 100 =
  1. Multiplying by 100 moves every digit two places to the left: write two zeros after 46.

Answer: 4,600

Example 2

37,000 ÷ 1,000 =
  1. Dividing by 1,000 moves every digit three places to the right: take three zeros off the end.

Answer: 37
