Example 1

Multiply: (3x2)(4x3)
  1. Multiply the numbers: 3 × 4 = 12.
  2. Multiply the powers by adding exponents: 2 + 3 = 5.

Answer: 12x5

Example 2

Multiply: (−2xy)(5x)
  1. Numbers: −2 × 5 = −10.
  2. x × x = x2, and the y comes along.

Answer: −10x2y
