Two examples

Example 1

A plumber charges $45 an hour plus a $60 visit fee. Which expression gives the cost for h hours?
  1. The hourly rate is multiplied by the hours: 45h.
  2. The fee is added once: + 60.

Answer: 45h + 60

Example 2

Kim has $200 and spends $25 a week. Which expression gives what is left after w weeks?
  1. She starts with 200.
  2. She loses 25 each week, w times: 25w.

Answer: 200 − 25w
