Example 1
Tickets cost $8 each, plus a $6 fee for the order. You have $50. What is the greatest number of tickets you can buy?
- The inequality: 8t + 6 ≤ 50. Subtract 6: 8t ≤ 44.
- Divide by 8: t ≤ 5.5. Tickets come whole, so the most is 5.
Answer: 5
Example 2
Kim has $100 and earns $15 an hour. She wants at least $400. What is the least number of whole hours she must work?
- 100 + 15h ≥ 400, so 15h ≥ 300 and h ≥ 20.
Answer: 20
