What is the slope of y = −3x + 7?
  1. In y = mx + b, the slope is m, the number multiplied by x.

Answer: −3

Example 2

What is the y-intercept of y = 5 − 2x?
  1. The y-intercept is b, the number on its own, wherever it is written.

Answer: 5
