Two examples

Example 1

What is the slope of the line through (2, 5) and (6, 13)?
  1. Change in y over change in x: (13 − 5) ÷ (6 − 2) = 8 ÷ 4.

Answer: 2

Example 2

What is the slope of the line through (−3, 4) and (1, −4)?
  1. (−4 − 4) ÷ (1 − (−3)) = −8 ÷ 4.
  2. Subtract in the same order, top and bottom.

Answer: −2
