Two examples

Example 1

Where is the point (3, −2)?
  1. Start at the origin, where the axes cross.
  2. The first number, 3: go 3 to the right. The second, −2: go 2 down.

Answer: 3 right, 2 down

Example 2

Where is the point (−4, 1)?
  1. −4: go 4 to the left. 1: go 1 up.

Answer: 4 left, 1 up
