Worked examples

Two examples

Example 1

What is the midpoint of the segment from (2, 3) to (8, 7)?
  1. Average the x-values: (2 + 8) ÷ 2 = 5.
  2. Average the y-values: (3 + 7) ÷ 2 = 5.

Answer: (5, 5)

Example 2

What is the midpoint of the segment from (−4, 1) to (2, −5)?
  1. x: (−4 + 2) ÷ 2 = −1.
  2. y: (1 + (−5)) ÷ 2 = −2.

Answer: (−1, −2)

Ten problems

This drill also has challenge problems. They use the same skill, set up the way the GED test sometimes sets up a problem, so that it looks new at first.

How many:

Type each answer as a point, like (3, -2). Then press Check my answers at the bottom.Write each answer as a point, like (3, −2). The answer key, with the reasoning, is on the last page.
