Two examples

Example 1

What is the distance between (1, 2) and (4, 6)?
  1. Across: 3. Up: 4. These are the legs of a right triangle.
  2. 32 + 42 = 9 + 16 = 25, and √25 = 5.

Answer: 5 units

Example 2

What is the distance between (−2, 1) and (10, 6)?
  1. Across: 12. Up: 5.
  2. 144 + 25 = 169, and √169 = 13.

Answer: 13 units
