Worked examples

Two examples

Example 1

A graph goes through (−3, 1), (1, 4) and (3, −2). What is f(1)?
  1. Find x = 1, go to the graph, and read the y-value.

Answer: 4

Example 2

On the same graph, between x = 1 and x = 3, is f rising or falling?
  1. Left to right, y goes from 4 down to −2.

Answer: Falling
