Is y = x2 + 1 a linear function?
- x is squared, so the graph is a curve.
Answer: No
Example 2
Is the function in the table linear?

| y | 4 | 7 | 10 | 13 |
- x goes up by 1 each time, and y goes up by 3 each time.
- The same change every time means a straight line.
Answer: Yes
