Two examples

Example 1

Function A is y = 2x + 5. Function B goes 1, 4, 7, 10 for x = 0, 1, 2, 3. Which has the greater rate of change?
  1. A’s rate is its slope, 2.
  2. B goes up 3 for each 1 in x. 3 is greater.

Answer: Function B

Example 2

Same two functions. Which has the greater y-intercept?
  1. A’s y-intercept is 5. B’s is 1, its y when x = 0.

Answer: Function A
