Two examples

Example 1

The function is the set of pairs (1, 4), (2, 5), (3, 4). What is its domain?
  1. The domain is all the x-values, the first numbers.

Answer: {1, 2, 3}

Example 2

Same function. What is its range?
  1. The range is all the y-values, each listed once: 4 appears twice but is written once.

Answer: {4, 5}
