Two examples

Example 1

A coat costs $80.00 and is 25% off. What is the sale price?
  1. The discount: 0.25 × 80 = 20.
  2. The sale price: 80 − 20 = 60. Or in one step: you pay 75%, and 0.75 × 80 = 60.

Answer: $60.00

Example 2

A pair of boots costs $120.00 and is 30% off. How much is the discount?
  1. 30% of 120: 0.3 × 120 = 36.
