Two examples

Example 1

3 pounds = ? ounces
  1. 1 pound = 16 ounces. Going to the smaller unit: multiply.
  2. 3 × 16 = 48.

Answer: 48 ounces

Example 2

5,000 pounds = ? tons
  1. 1 ton = 2,000 pounds. Going to the bigger unit: divide.
  2. 5,000 ÷ 2,000 = 2.5.

Answer: 2.5 tons
