Two examples

Example 1

3 gallons = ? quarts
  1. 1 gallon = 4 quarts. Multiply: 3 × 4.

Answer: 12 quarts

Example 2

10 cups = ? quarts
  1. 1 quart = 2 pints = 4 cups. Going to the bigger unit: divide by 4.
  2. 10 ÷ 4 = 2.5.

Answer: 2.5 quarts
