Worked examples

Two examples

Example 1

3.2 kilometers = ? meters
  1. Kilo- means 1,000: 1 kilometer = 1,000 meters.
  2. 3.2 × 1,000: move the point 3 places right.

Answer: 3,200 meters

Example 2

450 centimeters = ? meters
  1. Centi- means a hundredth: 100 centimeters = 1 meter.
  2. 450 ÷ 100: move the point 2 places left.

Answer: 4.5 meters
