Two examples

Example 1

A train goes 60 miles per hour. How many feet per second is that?
  1. 60 miles × 5,280 feet per mile = 316,800 feet per hour.
  2. An hour is 3,600 seconds: 316,800 ÷ 3,600 = 88.

Answer: 88 feet per second

Example 2

A job pays $15 an hour. How much is that per minute?
  1. An hour is 60 minutes: 15 ÷ 60 = 0.25.

Answer: $0.25 per minute
