Two examples

Example 1

An arrow points to the 6th small mark after 2 on an inch ruler marked in sixteenths. What length is it?
  1. Each small space is 116 inch, so the arrow is at 2 and 616.
  2. 616 simplifies to 38.

Answer: 2 38 inches

Example 2

An arrow points to the longest mark halfway between 1 and 2. What length is it?
  1. The longest mark between two whole inches is the half-inch mark.

Answer: 1 12 inches
