Two examples

Example 1

Baseboard costs $3 a foot. A room needs 240 inches of it. What will it cost?
  1. Change inches to feet first: 240 ÷ 12 = 20 feet.
  2. 20 × 3 = 60.

Answer: $60

Example 2

A pot holds 2 gallons of soup. How many 1-cup servings is that?
  1. A gallon is 16 cups: 2 × 16 = 32 cups.

Answer: 32 servings
