Worked examples

Two examples

Example 1

A parallelogram has a base of 9 ft and a height of 4 ft. What is its area?
  1. Base × height (the straight-up height, not the slanted side): 9 × 4.

Answer: 36 square feet

Example 2

A trapezoid has parallel sides of 6 m and 10 m and a height of 4 m. What is its area?
  1. 12 × (6 + 10) × 4 = 12 × 16 × 4.

Answer: 32 square meters
