Worked examples

Two examples

Example 1

What is the mean of 4, 8, 6, 10, 7?
  1. Add them: 35.
  2. Divide by how many there are, 5: 35 ÷ 5.

Answer: 7

Example 2

What is the mean of 72, 85, 90, 81?
  1. 72 + 85 + 90 + 81 = 328.
  2. 328 ÷ 4 = 82.

Answer: 82
