Two examples

Example 1

What is the median of 9, 3, 7, 12, 5?
  1. In order: 3, 5, 7, 9, 12.
  2. Five numbers: the middle one is the 3rd.

Answer: 7

Example 2

What is the median of 8, 2, 10, 5?
  1. In order: 2, 5, 8, 10.
  2. An even count: the mean of the middle two, 5 and 8.

Answer: 6.5
