Two examples

Example 1

A table shows coffee: Mon 40, Tue 35; tea: Mon 22, Tue 28. How many cups were sold on Tuesday in all?
  1. Find the Tuesday column: 35 and 28.
  2. Add.

Answer: 63

Example 2

Same table. How many more cups of coffee than tea on Monday?
  1. 40 − 22.

Answer: 18
