Two examples

Example 1

She ______ here since 2019.Choices: worked  /  has worked  /  works
  1. Find the time words: since 2019.
  2. Since means from a time in the past up to now. The work started then and is still going on.
  3. That takes has or have and the third form.

Answer: She has worked here since 2019.

Example 2

By the time the bus came, I ______ home.Choices: walked  /  had walked  /  have walked
  1. Two past events: the bus came, and I walked home. Which came first? The walking.
  2. The earlier of two past events takes had and the third form.

Answer: By the time the bus came, I had walked home.
