Two examples
Example 1
- Is the sentence comparing two things, or telling time?
- It compares the bus and walking. Than compares; then tells time.
Answer: The bus is faster than walking.
Example 2
- After will comes a verb, an action.
- Affect is the action; effect is the end result.
Answer: The new schedule will affect everyone.
