9 + 7 =
- Make a ten: 9 + 1 = 10.
- 7 is 1 and 6 more. So 10 + 6.
Answer: 16
Example 2
8 + 5 =
- Make a ten: 8 + 2 = 10.
- 5 is 2 and 3 more. So 10 + 3.
Answer: 13
