Example 1

A case holds 24 cans. How many cans are in 15 cases? Which calculation answers it?
  1. The same amount, 24, fifteen times over: multiply.

Answer: 24 × 15

Example 2

Three roommates split a rent of $2,250 equally. How much does each pay? Which calculation answers it?
  1. Sharing a total equally: divide.

Answer: 2,250 ÷ 3
