Two examples

Example 1

Solve: 23x = 12
  1. Multiply both sides by the reciprocal, 32: x = 12 × 32.

Answer: x = 18

Example 2

Solve: x4 + x2 = 9
  1. Multiply every term by 4 to clear the fractions: x + 2x = 36.
  2. 3x = 36, so x = 12.

Answer: x = 12
