Two examples

Example 1

Put in order, least to greatest: 4, −6, 0, −1
  1. The negatives come first, the one farthest to the left first: −6, then −1.
  2. Then 0, then the positives.

Answer: −6, −1, 0, 4

Example 2

Put in order, least to greatest: −12, 5, −3, −8
  1. Negatives first, farthest left first: −12, −8, −3.
  2. Then 5.

Answer: −12, −8, −3, 5
