Two examples

Example 1

Write 38 as a decimal.
  1. The fraction bar means divide: 3 ÷ 8.
  2. Write 3 as 3.000 and divide until nothing is left over.

Answer: 0.375

Example 2

Which is 23 as a decimal?
  1. Divide: 2 ÷ 3 = 0.666… The remainder 2 keeps coming back, so the 6 repeats forever.
  2. A bar over a digit means it repeats.

Answer: 0.6
