Example 1

Write 0.75 as a fraction in simplest form.
  1. Say its name: seventy-five hundredths, 75100.
  2. Simplify: divide the top and bottom by 25.

Answer: 34

Example 2

Write 2.4 as a fraction in simplest form.
  1. Say its name: two and four tenths. The whole number stays; the decimal part is 410.
  2. Simplify 410 to 25.

Answer: 2 25
