Example 1

Simplify the ratio 18 : 24
  1. The greatest number that goes into both 18 and 24 is 6.
  2. Divide both by 6, and keep the order.

Answer: 3 : 4

Example 2

Simplify the ratio 35 : 14
  1. The greatest number that goes into both is 7.
  2. 35 ÷ 7 = 5 and 14 ÷ 7 = 2.

Answer: 5 : 2
