Two examples

Example 1

Which is the better buy: a box of cereal with 12 ounces for $3.00, or one with 16 ounces for $3.84?
  1. Price of one ounce: 3.00 ÷ 12 = $0.25, and 3.84 ÷ 16 = $0.24.
  2. The lower price per ounce is the better buy.

Answer: The 16-ounce box

Example 2

Which is the better buy: 8 batteries for $6.00, or 20 batteries for $16.00?
  1. 6.00 ÷ 8 = $0.75 a battery. 16.00 ÷ 20 = $0.80 a battery.
  2. The pack of 8 costs less per battery.

Answer: The 8-battery pack
