Worked examples

Two examples

Example 1

A rectangle is 9 meters long and 4 meters wide. What is its area?
  1. Area = length × width = 9 × 4.

Answer: 36 square meters

Example 2

A rectangle has an area of 60 square inches and a width of 5 inches. What is its length?
  1. Area = length × width, so length = 60 ÷ 5.

Answer: 12 inches
