Example 1

A line graph goes from 60 in March to 45 in April. What was the change?
  1. New minus old: 45 − 60.
  2. A decrease is negative.

Answer: −15

Example 2

What was the value in March?
  1. Find March along the bottom, go up to the point, read across.

Answer: 60
