Example 1

Write as a mixed number: 175
  1. Divide the top by the bottom: 17 ÷ 5 = 3 R 2.
  2. That is 3 wholes, and 2 fifths left over.

Answer: 3 25

Example 2

Write as a mixed number: 234
  1. 23 ÷ 4 = 5 R 3.
  2. 5 wholes, and 3 fourths left over.

Answer: 5 34
