8.4 − 2.75 =
- Line up the points and write a zero: 8.40 − 2.75.
- Subtract as with whole numbers, borrowing where needed. Check: 5.65 + 2.75 = 8.40.
Answer: 5.65
Example 2
15 − 3.47 =
- 15 is 15.00.
- 15.00 − 3.47, borrowing across the zeros. Check: 11.53 + 3.47 = 15.00.
Answer: 11.53
